Are Y’all Still Wearing High Heels?
Hey, fabulous people! First let me give credit where it is due, this blog is inspired by my sister and fellow fashionista herself-Lotoyus Bly. We were texting about adding heels to our wardrobe and I was thinking, dang…I don’t really do heels like that anymore!! Then she said “can you do a blog on heels?”…I said “say less sis!” 😉
So, here we are and I’ve got a question for you: Are y’all still rocking high heels? Because lately, I’ve noticed a shift (but maybe it’s just in my life). It seems like heels are losing a bit of their sparkle in everyday life. Sure, they’ll always have a place at weddings, parties, or those nights where you’re channeling your inner Beyoncé, but in the day-to-day? Hmm… not so much. And by the way if you can’t find your inner Beyonce, I can do a post about that too!! Ha!! 😂
Remember the days when high heels were the ultimate symbol of sophistication and style? My mama wore heels everyday to work! And she retired after 34 years in the game! Wearing a pair of towering stilettos meant you were ready to take on the world. Or, at least, the concrete jungle (while praying the sidewalk didn’t eat one of your heels). But now, I’m not so sure anymore.
I mean, let’s be real. High heels are absolutely gorgeous. They elongate the legs, give you that extra boost of confidence, and make any outfit look instantly polished. They’re like magic wands for your feet. But… they also come with a price. And by price, I mean blisters, sore arches, corns on the pinky toes and that weird moment when you’re walking and suddenly feel like a newborn giraffe trying to stay upright.
I think the pandemic may have put things into perspective for a lot of us. With all that time spent at home, barefoot or in fuzzy slippers, we had a taste of the good life. And let’s not forget the rise of sneakers as the ultimate fashion statement. Sneakers went from casual Friday to everyday fabulous, pairing with everything from dresses to suits. Comfy, cute, and kind to your feet? It’s a triple win. And if you are like me with two teenagers, it’s easy to stay up on the latest and greatest sneakers in the game.
Speaking of, I remember when I bought my last pair of heels—beautiful, towering, and, to be honest, utterly impractical. I wore them once to a dinner party, and halfway through the night, I was questioning every life choice I’d ever made. When I finally swapped them out for a pair of flats, it was like my feet exhaled in relief. Ever since then, I’ve found myself gravitating more toward lower heels, block heels, or—gasp—no heels at all. I also know the time limit on a lot of the heels in my closet. Some have two hours, some have four and others I know were not meant to be worn, just to be cute.
And I know I’m not alone in this. I see more people choosing comfort without sacrificing style. It’s like we’ve collectively said, “Hey, I’m tired of limping home after a night out. Let’s just be cute and comfy!” Even brands are catching on. They’re designing shoes with comfort in mind, from chic flats to stylish sneakers that don’t scream “I’m going hiking after this.” You are definitely seeing more women in skirts and suits with sneakers than ever before and I am here for it!
Don’t get me wrong. There’s still something magical about slipping on a pair of high heels. It’s like armor for some people—the higher the heel, the closer to diva energy and that inner Beyonce. And sometimes, we need that. Heels can still make you feel fierce, and who doesn’t want that every now and then? But, maybe, just maybe, we’re evolving past the idea that beauty has to equate to pain. Maybe we’re realizing that we can be stylish, powerful, and comfortable at the same time.
So, what about you? Are you still all-in on the high heels, or are you embracing the flats, sneakers, and loafers lifestyle? I’d love to hear your thoughts—are heels a timeless classic in your wardrobe, or just for special occasions now? I’m def in the special occasion category. Let’s talk about it, and if you’re sitting there reading this in your sky-high stilettos, I’m seriously impressed. Teach me your ways!
In the meantime, I’ll be over here in my comfy shoes, watching the high-heel debate unfold… 👠 vs. 👟 – the choice is yours!
Xoxo,
Your flat-and-happy fashion friend

Girl thanks for continuing this discussion , because I am choosing comfort!!! I am choosing sneakers and flats with my dresses for work because I clock a lot of steps daily! Heels definitely have their place but it’s becoming a small corner in my closet. That’s my Truth Ruth!
